She made her debut in 1972 with the single "Gaeyeoul" (개여울) but her popularity rose a few years later with the release of singles such as "Please Whistle" (휘파람을 부세요) and "Missing Thoughts" (그리운 생각). However, her passion for art made her retire as a singer in 1979 when she moved to France to attend grad school. She returned to South Korea several years later and, became a professor of Western Painting at the Department of Plastic Arts at Suwon University in 1993. She retired from teaching in 2014 and a few years later returned to music with the album "37 Years" (37년). She prefers to appear in concerts and public events rather than TV shows.
