Yoshida Kenkichi

At the age of 17, he exhibited "Engekijin" at the Nikakai exhibition and achieved his first selection. He enrolled in the former Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko (now Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Design), and in 1920, while still a student, he created the typography for silent films such as "Woman of Illusions" and "The Story of White Chrysanthemum." He graduated from the same school in 1922.
After the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, he joined the advertising and art department of the Tsukiji Little Theater,
He began sketching street signs and billboards around the time of the Great Kanto Earthquake, and in 1924, he contributed "The Beauty of Barrack Tokyo Signs" to the magazine "Architectural Shincho." These activities later developed into "Kogengaku," and in 1930, he co-authored "Modern Lodge" with his senior at Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko.
In 1930, he published his single-authored book, "The Notebook of a Stage Set Designer."
From 1935, he worked on modern drama stage sets and art designs at J.O. Studio in Kyoto.
After World War II, he established the Kenkichi Yoshida Stage Art Research Institute.
