Ota Tadashi

He became acquainted with the organ at the age of 8 and began studying piano and composition at the age of 15.
After graduating from commercial school in 1919, he composed numerous songs and children's songs, and in 1924, he wrote around 30 piano études.
In 1927, he aspired to compose orchestral music and joined the Shin Symphony Orchestra as a pianist. Later, he transferred to the Corona Orchestra and then to the P.C.L. Orchestra. In 1930, he joined the New Composers' Association.
In 1934, he formed the "Shin Ongakuha" (新音楽派).
In 1937, he became the music director at Toho Film Company, but left the company in 1941. Additionally, in 1940, commissioned by JOAK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), he submitted his first symphonic poem "Rhapsody No.1" as a national epic.
From the spring of 1943 onwards, he spent a year in Manchuria as the exclusive composer for the New Jing Music Group. During this time, he conducted research, transcribed music, and studied Manchurian music. He composed an orchestral suite titled "Mandarin Duck Suite" and provided music for three feature films and three cultural films at Man-Ei (Manchuria Film Company), leaving behind valuable records related to Mongolia. Unfortunately, these records were destroyed in the war.
He returned to Japan in 1945 and served as a pianist for the Toho Symphony Orchestra. Later, he worked as a choreography pianist at the Nihon Gekijou (Japan Theater), where he also composed music for ballet performances. However, his whereabouts after joining the Nihon Gekijou are unknown.
