She graduated from Musashino Women's College.
In 1955, he joined the Radio Tokyo Broadcasting Troupe as a member of the fourth intake. Initially, she aspired to be a director, but she shifted her focus to acting after being told that there were no female directors in the KR Broadcasting Troupe.
In 1956, she was scouted by Toho and signed a contract while still being a member of the theater company. She made her debut in the movie "Wakodono no Gaika".
In 1957, she joined Toho. She left Toho in 1959 and became a freelancer. Later, she retired due to marriage but resumed her activities in the 1970s.
From 1969, she studied Japanese art history at the graduate school of Waseda University.
In the 1980s, she published numerous books related to cooking.
Her husband was Nakajima Chikara, a former producer at TV Asahi.
On August 3, 2019, she passed away in her home in Chofu, Tokyo, Japan, due to ischemic heart failure. She was 84 years old.
