After graduating from a private high school in Canada, he encountered Ishihara Shintaro (at the time, a member of the House of Representatives for the Liberal Democratic Party) while studying at Kinki University. Ishihara encouraged him to debut as an actor and join Ishihara Promotion. In November 1980, he made his debut in the TV drama "Seibu Keisatsu".
In 1996, he retired from the entertainment industry and transitioned into business. However, in 2006, he made a guest appearance in the film "New Sailor Suit and Machine Gun." Since then, he has resumed his acting career within a scope that does not interfere with his main occupation.
In 2019, during an interview with Mainichi Shimbun, he revealed that in November 2017, he lost consciousness and was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer by doctors, who gave him a prognosis of one month to live. He underwent about six months of treatment, including three types of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. As a result, the tumor almost disappeared, and he made a comeback.
