He made his stage debut in November 1933 at Meijiza Theater (明治座) in Kyoenroku (侠艶録). Later, he mentored younger actors in the Seinen no Kai (青年の会) acting group.
On January 2, 1978, he collapsed on stage during the opening night at Shinbashi Enbujo Theater (新橋演舞場) and passed away the following day at age 54.
