Ogawa Hirooki

He graduated from Daikura High School of Commerce's Junior Division in 1943, and furthered his studies in vocal music under Tachimatsu Fusako and Sonoda Seiichi, and composition, orchestration, and conducting under Hattori Ryoichi and Mori Tadashi. Initially involved with opera in the Fujihara Opera Chorus, he later focused solely on composition.
In 1947, Ogawa became an apprentice of Hattori Ryoichi and gained independence by 1950. His career included composing and conducting musicals at the Imperial Theatre, and he held exclusive composer roles with Columbia Records from 1960 to 1961 and King Records from 1962 to 1973.
He composed his first television drama music for "Ponpoko Monogatari" in 1957 and subsequently contributed music for numerous television programs by Shin-Ei Animation.
From 1957 onward, he lived in Ebara, Shinagawa, Japan. He served as Vice Chairman of the Shinagawa Cultural Promotion Foundation and was a member of the Shinagawa Ward Board of Education, making significant contributions to the Shinagawa Citizen Art Festival.
Hirooki Ogawa passed away on July 19, 2017, at the age of 92 due to multiple cerebral infarctions.
