He began performing as a rock singer at an underground live club in 1985 but, he made his official debut as a member of the rock music group UNIQUE ZONE (이색지대) in 1991.
That same year, he also began promoting independently and won the MBC Top-10 Singer Award and the New Artist Award for his first solo album, "Not a Breakup". After releasing his second album the following year, he was barely active as a singer, working sporadically as an actor and releasing a few trot singles in 2012 without much success.
During his return to TV in 2012, he confessed to having suffered from mental issues. As he won prizes during his rookie year, he was diagnosed with grandiose delusions and spent 2 months in a mental health institution. After being released, he fell into a severe depression when his second album was not as well-received as the first one was and he won no prizes for it.
He is now trying to return to the industry.
