He began his music career as a member of The Spiders from 1962 to 1970. Following this, he joined PYG from 1971 to 1972 and the Inoue Takayuki Band from 1971 to 1980. In 1980, he formed the Ono Katsuo Band and continues to perform actively. He also became a member of the Tigers Memorial Club Band in 1988.
Ono Katsuo’s early music education began at Kyoto City Kakuuchi Elementary School, where he learned music fundamentals. By fourth grade, he was composing music for school events. He continued his education at Kyoto City Ikubun Junior High School and Kyoto City Horikawa High School, where he was scouted by Ishikuro Gary and worked with "Gary Ishikuro & Sons of the West" during the summer of his second year. Although he initially focused on university entrance exams, he chose a professional music career and started as a steel guitarist with the same band in 1958.
In 1965, as a member of The Spiders, he debuted with the single "Furi Furi". He released his only solo vocal track, "Kami no Okite," on their 1968 album "Meiji Hyakunen, Supaidasu Shichi-nen."
Ono Katsuo's first solo album, "FREE WAYS," was released on March 1, 1978.
