Her father was in charge of a music store near the U.S. military base in Dongducheon, so instead of sending her daughter to school, she began performing for the American troops at an early age. During her teens, she joined HAPPY DOLLS (해피돌즈) as the group's vocalist and began singing at several military bases.
In 1978, the group disbanded, and she became a soloist, scheduling many events in hotels and clubs. She met singer Franco Romano, and he helped her truly launch her career. In 1979, she released her first album, "Eternal Friend", and quickly gained popularity across the country.
She is considered one of South Korea's first superstars and an icon of K-Pop in the 1980s and early 1990s, with several of his greatest hits being remade by other singers.
