William Shakespeare
- Name: William Shakespeare
- Native name: William Shakespeare
- Nationality: British
- Gender: Male
Shakespeare's career in London as an actor, playwright, and part-owner of the Lord Chamberlain's Men (later renamed the King’s Men) began between 1585 and 1592. His company constructed the Globe Theatre in Southwark in 1599. During his time in London, he lived in various locations, including the parish of St Helen’s, Bishopsgate, and later near St Paul’s Cathedral, where he rented rooms from Christopher Mountjoy, a wig-maker.
Throughout his career, Shakespeare divided his time between London and Stratford. He purchased New Place, a large home in Stratford, in 1597 and appears to have retired there around 1611, though he continued visiting London until 1614.
Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616 at the age of 52, shortly after finalizing his will. The cause of his death remains unknown.
