Hou Xiao is a Chinese actor, a retired soldier and a former Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) athlete. He was born in Beijing, China. He graduated from the Central Academy of Drama. He comes from an artistic family, and several members of his family across three generations are involved in the arts. In 2003, he enlisted in the Armed Police Force in Shanghai, where he served as a member of the Armed Police Sanda Team.

After being discharged, he enrolled in the Directing Department of the Central Academy of Drama, majoring in acting. During his sophomore year, he won the Best Actor Award at the Central Academy of Drama's Sketch Competition. He played the male lead in both his class's graduation plays, Qin Wang Zheng and Romulus the Great.

After graduation, he has been active on screen, appearing in television dramas; however, he took some time to play on stage in theaters as well. In 2016, he participated in the Chinese version of Disney's Broadway musical "The Lion King". He also co-directed a stage play, "A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella" with Huang Yan Zhuo.
