He first studied in the Department of Sports and Leisure Studies at Yonsei University, then later retook the college entrance exam and was admitted to Seoul National University, where he graduated with a degree in Physical Education. He subsequently moved to London and obtained UEFA Coaching License Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.

He studied Exercise Physiology at Loughborough University. During his time in England, he worked as a coach in the ninth tier of the English football league system.
