Before debuting, he wanted to honor his father's dream and chose to become a singer. He spent time as a trainee at AB Entertainment and Soribada, but Park Dae Won convinced him to audition for another agency. He was also a backup dancer for several singers such as K.Will, EXO and Sistar.
He made his debut in October 2014 as MADTOWN's main vocalist (using the stage name Lee Geon) with their first album, also titled "Mad Town". The group enjoyed some initial success. However, J. Tune Camp (제이튠캠프) began facing financial problems and rumors of possible embezzlement and declared bankruptcy in early 2017. Their contracts were transferred to GNI Entertainment (지엔아이엔터테인먼트).
In September 2017, they filed a lawsuit to terminate their contracts, and the Seoul Central District Court ruled in their favor 2 months later, leading to their disbandment.
He later signed with KH Company (케이에이치컴퍼니) and made his solo debut in October 2018 (now using the stage name Lee Woo) with the single "If I Know".
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on November 12, 2020, and was discharged on May 11, 2022. After his release, he continues to promote as a soloist.
