Michael Lee is an American singer and musical actor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, but his family moved to a small community outside of Buffalo, where his father worked as a doctor. He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

While preparing to enter medical school in California, he casually auditioned for a role in the musical "Miss Saigon". After failing to be selected twice already, he unexpectedly earned the role and graduated early to pursue a career in entertainment. He made his debut in 1995 and, for several years, performed exclusively in the United States. In 2006, he went to South Korea to perform in the adaptation of his debut musical, and while he was praised for his emotional acting and vocal skills, he was heavily criticized for his poor Korean pronunciation. He challenged himself to improve and opted to stay in South Korea, where he began performing in many productions. In 2013, he moved permanently to Seoul, and he is now one of the most recognized musical actors in the country. He is represented by Blue Stage (블루스테이지).
