He first appeared on TV in 2014 as a contestant in the singing survival show “K-Pop Star Season 3”, where he finished in 2nd place. After a 2-year hiatus to improve his physical condition, he made his official debut in April 2016 with his first album, "I Am Sam". Since then, he has released several OSTs, collaborated with numerous artists, appeared in many music-related show, and divided his time between South Korea and the U.S.
In January 2023, he suspended activities for several months after his father was murdered in an attempted robbery of the family's restaurant in Seattle. He later ended his contract with Antenna and signed with his current agency, Herbigharo (비그하로), owned by singer Park Hyo Shin.
