Towake Hisao

From a young age, he was involved in the performing arts. He attended Gyosei Elementary School, Kyoka Middle School, and later studied economics at Hosei University. While still a student in 1928, he joined the Seisakuza theater company. In 1930, introduced by senior Mishima Masao, he joined the newly formed Theatre Comedy group and played the lead in "Jean de la Lune." He graduated from university in 1933.
After Theatre Comedy dissolved in 1936, Toake joined Toho New Comedy and later the Moulin Rouge troupe. In 1937, he left the entertainment industry to work at a textile company in Nara, following his father's wishes, and married in 1939.
Post-World War II, Toake returned to the entertainment industry, appearing on NHK Osaka radio in 1946. He moved back to Tokyo in 1950, joined Bungakuza as a guest member, and made his film debut in 1951 with "Free School." After leaving Bungakuza in 1953, he dedicated himself to film.
Toake's father was a prominent amateur Gidayu reciter and ran a hemp business, while his mother was the adopted daughter of the first Sanyutei Yusa. His daughter, Toake Yukiyo, is also an actress.
Toake Hisao passed away from lung cancer at Tokyu Hospital in Ota, Tokyo, on December 18, 1985, at the age of 77.
