Nakagawa Ryutaro, born in 1990 in the Kanagawa prefecture, released his first feature film in 2012. His sixth feature Summer Blooms (2017) was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival. He has attracted further attention both in Japan and abroad through his latest work Silent Rain (2019) which was screened at both the 2019 Busan International Film Festival and Tokyo FilmEx where it won the Audience Award. Besides his work as a filmmaker he is also a poet.
