Kobayashi Tokuji

Initially, he dropped out of Okayama City Industrial School and later formed a student theater group that toured various regions. He then attended Japan Automobile School in Kamata and worked there after graduation. His interest in acting was piqued by the proximity of Shochiku Kamata Studio. In January 1921, he became a disciple of Morokuchi Jukumi and joined Kamata Studio, adopting the stage name Kobayashi Tokuji. He made his film debut in July 1921 with "Akumu."
In January 1933, he was promoted to an executive position and achieved full executive status by 1935.
On March 16, 1934, Kobayashi was arrested along with 13 others for illegal gambling.
During World War II, he left Shochiku and worked as a stage actor. He returned to Shochiku’s Ofuna Studio in 1951. Kobayashi Tokuji died on June 11, 1964, at the age of 63.
