Chae Yeon
- Name: Chae Yeon
- Native name: 채연
- Also Known as: Chaeyeon, Jinny, 이채연
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Female
- Born: December 10, 1978
- Age: 47
She began her career in Japan in January 2001 as a member of BRAND NEW BISCUITS (ブランニュービスケット). The group released an album but immediately disbanded after promotions ended.
She then appeared in the Japanese show "Utchan Nanchan no Urinari!!" and one of the hosts, comedian Teruyoshi Uchimura, knew of her dream to become a singer and decided to form a musical group called ULTRACATS (ウルトラキャッツ) in October 2001, using the stage name Jinny. They had no representation, so they could not sell any CDs with their music and were only able to sing during the show.
Unfortunately, the TV station decided to cancel the show in March 2002 and went to South Korea to try to find a distribution company. They were offered to sing during the live broadcast of SBS's "Popular Song" and, if they earned at least 70% support from the studio audience, the show will help them sell a CD in South Korea. They won 90% support, and Sony Music Entertainment also decided to sell their song "Barem" in Japan.
Uchimura then helped them sell more CDs in Japan and he personally went to several stations asking for a show for them to sing on. Eventually, TBS agreed to give them a late-evening 30-minute show from April 2002 for half a year, which was titled "Ultra C". Six months later, the show ended, the group disbanded, and she returned to South Korea to begin her career in her country.
She made her debut in South Korea in August 2003 with her album "It's My Time". She found commercial success with the lead single "Two Of Us", part of her second album "Virginalness Bloom", released in December 2004. The song had a catchy tune, and the music video was deemed too "racy" as it showed exposed underwear and her full back. This drew even more attention as it was banned from airing before 22:00, pushing it to No.1 on many music charts.
She is also active on variety shows, as a radio host and occasionally on musicals. She is represented by CAI Entertainment (차이엔터테인먼트).
