Cha Seung Woo
- Name: Cha Seung Woo
- Native name: 차승우
- Also Known as: Cha Seung U, Cha Cha, 차차
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: July 27, 1978
- Age: 47
In 1994, he formed the band CRY BABY (크라이 베이비) with 2 more friends from high school. They were able to perform in small festivals at first before they moved to clubs in the Seoul district of Hongdae. There, he met Lee Sung Woo, and all 4 decided to re-brand as NO BRAIN. The name comes from their desire for concert-goers to leave their rational minds at the venue doors.
He made his official debut in 1996 with their album "Our Nation Volume 2", a split album between them and the band WEEPER. They also contributed a cover of "Lithium" to the Nirvana tribute album "Smells Like Nirvana" and several tracks to the South Korean punk compilation "Here We Stand". They are widely considered one of the godfathers of the South Korean punk scene. He decided to leave the band in early 2002.
Then, in 2006, he formed the rock and indie band THE MOONSHINERS. They released two full-length albums but they became well-known thanks to their live performances. Their second album, "Blue Night's BEAT!", is famous for being all live performances and is considered one of the masterpieces of the South Korean indie and rock and roll scene.
He made his acting debut in 2008 with a role in "Go Go 70s", which earned him the Best New Actor award at various ceremonies.
The band went on hiatus in mid-2012 as all members wanted to try new things and he opted to become a solo artist. They reunited in 2017 for a concert but have not released any new material since 2012.
He formed a new band, THE MONOTONES, almost immediately after THE MOONSHINERS went on hiatus. They were able to perform at several rock festivals but faced lineup changes and delays recruiting new members. They officially debuted in 2015 with the release of their first and only album, "Into The Night".
In 2018, as they were about to release their documentary film, 2 of the 4 members became involved in sex scandals. The movie was cancelled, and with only 2 members remaining, they decided to disband later that year.
He is now performing as a solo artist under the stage name Cha Cha.
