She was part of the pre-debut lineup of FIN.K.L but, was ultimately not chosen and left the agency one month before the group debuted.
She made her debut in March 1999 as CLEO's main vocalist and main dancer with their first self-titled album, "Cleo". The group was managed by Doremi Media (도레미 미디어) and decided to showcase the group in a childlike, innocent fashion. However, the concept was heavily criticized by the public and was also not liked by all the members causing lineup changes as early as 2000.
They left Doremi Media in 2001 and signed with Gaonix, but only released one album in 2 years of collaboration with the agency. She decided to leave the group in late 2003 after their newest material was not well received and the agency began forcing the members to do bolder concepts, including a nude photoshoot, which she was against.
She made her debut as a soloist in February 2007 (under the stage name Enjel) with the studio album, "My Name is Enjel" but, it was not a commercial success.
In August 2011, she re-debuted as part of Hong Kong-based group GIRLS KINGDOM with their first self-titled single, "Girls Kingdom". However, the group quickly became inactive and quietly disbanded in early 2013.
In 2016, she reunited with Kim Ha Na and Gong Seo Young (who used the stage name Jung Ye Bin during her time as a singer) for an episode of "Two Yoo Project Sugar Man Season 1" and she expressed the will to comeback as CLEO at some point.
Finally, in October 2023, she announced on her IG that CLEO was coming back with her and two new members. She re-debuted in September 2024 with the digital single, "You're Mine". They are now managed by StarMade Entertainment (스타메이드엔터테인먼트).
