In 1911, he dropped out of the old Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts and joined the Kawakami Otojiro troupe. In 1917, he joined the Kabuki Association led by Iba Takashi, and in 1918, he joined the masterpiece seat chaired by Yamamoto Kaichi.
In 1925, Teikoku Kinema split and Matsumoto joined the Ashiya Film Factory and appeared as the lead actor in many of his first films. However, he left the company in January 1927 and became an exclusive member of the Shochiku General Partnership Company.
In December of the same year, he joined Nikkatsu Tahata Photo Studio. However, at the end of the same year, Matsumoto left Nikkatsu.
After leaving the company, he was active in demonstrations in Asakusa, but in May 1929, he returned to Teikoku Kinema. From 1938, he transferred to the emerging Kinema Kyoto studio.
His last confirmed appearance was Oshimoto's movie "Directly Visited Furyu Otoko" released in 1941. There has been no news about his life and his death date is unknown. Edit Biography
