He made his debut in 1983 with the song "I Don't Know", and, alongside singers like Cho Yong Pil and Lee Seon Hee, he led the popular music industry in the 1980s thanks to his outstanding singing skills. Further, he was especially popular with her female fans because of his good looks. He released his 1st album, "Namnam/Sorrow", with double title songs that nominated him for the Rookie of the Year Award.
His 2nd album, released in 1987, became an instant hit and the song "Accompanied" spent 5 consecutive weeks as #1, earning him the Golden Cup. In 1995, he left to study in the United States and did not release an album (his 10th) until 2007 and then his fans had to wait another 10 years for the 11th album. He also served as the CEO of Yedang Art TV, and since 2011, he has been a professor at the Department of Practical Music at Jangan University and is currently an adjunct professor at the Department of Cultural Contents at Konkuk University.
