In early 2006, MBK Entertainment created a new idol group called GM5. However, the agency kept making lineup changes and testing the members in smaller venues for over a year. He was brought in as the new lead vocalist in December of that year. He finally made his debut in September 2007 with their first album "The Beautiful Stardust" and was designated as the leader. The group was known as CHOSHINSUNG (초신성) in South Korea and as CHOSHINSEI (超新星) in Japan. They debuted in Japan in September 2009 with the single "Kimi Dake o Zutto (Only You Forever)" and began focusing on the Japanese market. In 2010, MBK transferred management of the group to Maroo Corporation.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on October 25, 2011 and was discharged on July 24, 2013. During his enlistment, he made his debut as a solo artist in March 2012 with the Japanese single "Again". After serving, he began appearing in support roles in several dramas and was also part of the sub-unit DOUBLE ACE, alongside the other vocalist Kim Sung Je. In 2018, the members opted not to renew their contracts with Maroo and all signed with SV Entertainment (SV엔터테인먼트) and also decided to rebrand, using SUPERNOVA as the group's only name worldwide.
In September and November 2020, he was accused of illegal gambling after an investigation revealed two separate incidents. The agency apologized on his behalf, and no further reports regarding any penalty were released. In 2022, the group went officially on an indefinite hiatus as all members are focusing on their individual activities. He is now appearing in several productions as a musical actor.
