While attending Takachiho Junior High School, he took a sick leave for two years due to pulmonary tuberculosis. During that time, he posted in the manga section of Asahi Graph and became a disciple of the manga artist Tsutsumi Kanzo.
In 1936, his debut work "Freshman Shin Warabe-kun" was published in the morning edition of "Tokyo Asahi Shimbun." The following year he joined the New Manga Group.
At the age of 76, on March 25, 1989, he died in his home in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. His cause of death was respiratory dysfunction due to lung cancer. Edit Biography
