Before that, she was a student at University of Santo Tomas for two years studying Hotel and Restaurant Management, and then switched to Computer Science on her father's advice. She later stopped classes after a year when her father passed away and left her an inheritance. This seed fund was used to start her first business H&H Martini Bar, located beside the infamous Laureno Compound in Makati. This area spawned the first, cool, underground bars like ABG's, Sambos and Lava Lounge populate and where the first rave parties were thrown. Avi discovered modeling by accident. She went to a go-see with her boyfriend then who when then was a seasoned model in the scene and found herself in her first fashion show. On the 2nd year of her modeling career, she put up Kingpin Syndicate Inc., a modeling and events company which she later on gave up when she got engaged and decided to create the Sly brand.
After only a few films, she met her soon-to-be husband Patrick Ribbsaeter, an international Swedish model, whom she fell madly in love with. She decided to leave the country with him to start her own business brand Sly - now SlyEmpire Inc. Her rockstar-themed wedding party to this Swedish model was held at Embassy club. They had their names tattooed on each others' wedding fingers - the only binding pieces they have - since no wedding papers were signed.
