Because the drama have changed a lot from its source material(novel), especially when they changed the story and personality of characters that causes some effect in the story
I finally came back and finished this drama after dropping it a while ago. At first, I only wanted to watch it for the revenge arc, but the long college flashback made me lose interest. After reading the novel a few years later, I decided to give the show another shot and finish it.
Looking at the comments, I noticed what felt like a clear double standard. I've seen plenty of dramas where a flawed female lead repeatedly hurts the male lead, yet viewers are willing to understand or defend her because of her trauma or personal struggles. Li Xun has his own struggle too. Even when his actions are wrong, I think the same willingness to understand the character should apply, especially when some widely praised and sympathize female leads have done things that are arguably just as bad or worse.
The drama is almost like a fairy-tale version of the original book. The romance and characters are softer and easier to sympathize with, while the novel gives Li Xun a much darker background, a colder and more harsh personality, and far fewer moral. His obsession with revenge is also much more darker, his background is much more darker and he suffered a lot compare to a drama version.
Zhu Yun is also quite different in the novel. The drama presents her more as a kind good girl, whereas the novel makes it much clearer that there is a rebellious and more extreme side underneath her polite character. She literally describes Li Xun as her king and herself as his loyal subject. Her devotion and obsession to him goes extraordinarily far: she continues to stand beside him through prison, family opposition, revenge and the struggles that follow.
If you couldn't stand Li Xun in the drama, you probably won't like the novel version any more. But if you're interested in a darker character, a more complicated relationship, and a much harsher revenge story, the novel is definitely worth reading.

I stopped watching after ep 20, this drama is so good but I can't stand how they massacre Wan Jie character, in the early episode we can see how smart and genius he was but after that he just became an average kid who want to know about his father but dude atleast writer or director should atleast make consistency on his character, he was supposedly a smart and genius but after they arrested Ding, Wan Jie suddenly became dump and stupid, inexperience can't also be an excuse for him because he was trained and smart that can compensate his lack of inexperience and he was fvcking already adult to make a good decision but he just making it harder🤦and made dump decision, Wen Jie can literally ask help to the police about the mastermind and share his information, he can even negotiate to the police to let him join the investigation he's not stupid he will know know that police can only accept it because he was the key piece to find the mastermind.
I dropped it after episode 20 and I don't have plan to continue watching it, I'm kind of watcher who can't stand when main lead always do something stupid, it suck such a good drama but was ruined because writer forgot whats Wan Jie character, if there's character development then Wan Jie was the opposite of it a developed character became stupid, I really thought it was good as Under the skin but sadly only early episode was good🤦

I don't know why you think OBS is overhype when most of the kdrama you mention is also overhype or maybe it doesn't suit your taste because there's no a trope like a super perfect good looking ML, multiple guy trying to fight over a same woman and FL trying to choose which guys would she end up with, where we usually see in overhype romcom (kdrama)
