It's pretty good I think people who like a heavily mystery-medical (whether it's realistic or not) drama with some romance and likeable main characters might like this. I enjoyed the first 20 or so episodes more then the last ones though because novelty starts to wear off.
Let's start with Xiao Yao (The actress did not convince me in this role her acting choices and micro-expressions…
I believe you there were times I felt she did well in her dramatic acting certain scenes (i.e when she had the scene in the noodle shop and her drunken Dad came in on her birthday) but then she would lose me again in so many other scenes I don't know something was off here. I would certainly not judge her based on one role. about Bai Lu I think you're right.
Let's start with Xiao Yao (The actress did not convince me in this role her acting choices and micro-expressions…
Yes but they waited until the end to show this arc pretty much from episode 33 so last 7 episodes to show this that's why I said he had so much potential which they squandered by giving little screentime and making his character's motivations revolve around Xiao Yao in the first 33 episodes. But he definitely was a interesting character they could have exploited imo.
I have a completely unfavorable opinion on this series so be warned.
Let's start with Xiao Yao (The actress did not convince me in this role her acting choices and micro-expressions she had a constant surprised look on her face it seemed, I was not impressed please take this as constructive criticism as I harbor no ill will for this actress as it is my first time seeing her). Xiao Yao as a character was frustrating she has this idealism about right and wrong and a savior complex. However for all her talk she did not walk the walk let's say. Now Hong Ye he is pitiful I felt really bad for him but for a character who had so much potential the little screentime and lack of good writing made him nothing but a punching bag basically for the narrative till the very end in all his lives pretty much (Many compare this to FoF but I'm sorry that was well done with consistent tone and good execution through the drama so the ending was more acceptable and that character was so full of personailty unlike Hong Ye). The supporting cast Bing Zhu and PP oh my they got on my nerves like no one very unlikeable but the plot should help that and it didn't also the fact he is last one standing and his ending is so laughable. The romantic chemistry was ok if the plot had lived up to a proper execution and good writing this would have been a decent watch imho but unfortunately that's not the case for me so in the end 40 episodes too long and just very disappointed. Again sorry to the fans but after all the time I invested I needed to leave an honest opinion if people enjoyed it that's great but this is just my perspective on this.
Story was good, acting was good and visuals were nice. I would only complain about two things (pacing and romance) which is it drags in the middle and that made me want to drop it but picked up a bit after but they spend like 5 episodes or so on the same politcal/agriculture issue I was getting bored. The other would be the romance itself is very mature It was a complete romance as they when through different stages (enemies to lovers) but it didn't feel like the chemistry was very strong between them and made romantic moments seem lackluster for lack of a better word.I know I'm nitpicking a bit but because of this I don't think I'll be rewatching but this is truly quality production and I respect that nonetheless.
Have they finally cancelled this? are we never going to see it? What's going on? I have on my watchlist but I might take it out because it's been a long time already.
I guess I'm the only one who watched for the main couple but I have to say the slice of life and drama were the main points not the romance. I honestly have a lot of problems of the execution it's slow pace felt too slow which is a surprise since its only 8 eps and still felt like it dragged on sometimes. The subplots are interesting but again they could have wrapped them up faster it's like they were biting time. I liked the characters and the color palette is nice but I felt like they could have had more of a built up in the romances. The acting was good I was moved at times especially by the supporting characters (Alan and Gaipai). I didn't fully like it but I can't dislike it either type of drama.
So I rated this a 7.5 I liked the premise (interesting) and the characters (morally grey and conflicted mainly Ritsu) I like characters who don't conform to the norm and that makes them more interesting to me. However I feel like I was watching a roadtrip. Some ideas were really interesting but I had a problem with the execution of more telling then showing here. I could say more but I don't want to include spoilers. Overall I feel like I didn't get enough substance in a premise that had so much deph to offer. I woudn't say it wasn't worth a watch but what you get out of it depends on preferences and expectations mine were not fulfilled entirely but I still enjoyed the attempt of trying to tell this story/idea.
