can someone please tell me how can yushan marry that duke ... her brother is just expired i mean in other historical…
History is super complicated 😭 especially when you have something so long and messy, China is more of a civilisation and less of a country with 6000+ years history, things can change a lot. The three year morning period is more of a Daoism thing (taoism) but during certain dynasties that was very widespread as it was a well respected religion in the political classes. Some people even have that tradition to this day.
This drama is set in the Ming dynasty. I know not every Chinese person feels the same way, but some Han Chinese people, even my family members, see the Song dynasty (which was 200 years before Ming) as the last truly legitimate dynasty of China. Basically at the end of the Song dynasty China was invaded and ruled by the Mongols. The Ming dynasty was a Han Chinese Empire that overthrew the Mongols... after that there was Qing who are from Manchurian and were not native during that time (However now they are integrated and also considered Chinese). Basically many people invaded China, and became Chinese and are now Chinese so yeahhh complicated.
Anywayyy the point is: overtime a lot of traditions and ideas get lost and watered down as different dynasties destroy previous history to prove their own legitimacy. So if you've been watching Han and Tang dynasty dramas, expect society to be veryyyy different in a Ming drama.
To be honest, the only reason China has any historical artefacts to even put in museums today is because they were once lost or hidden because pretty much all of the palaces, cities, temples, jewels, records etc etc that ever existed have all been destroyed over the years to make way for the next dynasty right. For example many embroidery, and fabric weaving methods have been lost for centuries. We see them written down in old books but we have no way of recreating them and have lost the skills required to do so.
ARGh I had low expectations but I'm enjoying this so much!! Also shot so beautifully, just what I needed to start spring!! Guys if you're hesitating, go for it, this drama is like 2 yrs of free therapy so relaxing!
guys did the oldest sister get beaten by her husband? I saw a clip online and I don't want to watch if it's true, I'm too scared to carry on watching past ep 11. Please let me know, I don't want to see her suffer.
I'm actually glad that Zi Qi told Miaomiao his courtesy name and that she had been calling him that name since…
I am half Chinese and I love Chinese names so much because you really can just choose anything you want and the parents really don't care at all its so funny. Like my mum was missing her hometown cooking a lot when she was pregnant with me, so she just named me like that 😂😂😂. And when her parents named her they used the song title that was popular at the time.
Sorry for bring dumb but I just don't understand what is going with the empress dowager and the princess's maid and all the flashbacks with the people locked in the room trying to get out...? I'm on ep 19 and I'm super confused, I would love a brief summary
