Actually, neither I've got it immediatelly, but having read the book in Italian translation, which had a slightly different title (Un'autografia o quasi/ ie. Almost an autobiography), I've said to myself: "later I'll check how's the English title, maybe that's the same book", then came here, and already one of MDL's users (JJJ) noticed the book must be Kurosawa's autobiography. And in ep 9 today, SCC, talking to her bestie, confirmed it is Kurosawa's autobiography. I agree with your opinion on Tong Hua, btw.
ml falling in love with every ver of her but not her real self hahaahahhahaaahahah
well... not exactly... he started to appreciate her work, that's a good start, they only need to clear the misconceptions about each other, especially her good intentions when she was a kid. But... there wouldn't be a story if they clear everything soon and (our) enjoyment to see him fall with different versions of herself, right?
Fresh, funny and engaging, with lot of original twists and great acting... but what makes me truly appreciate this drama are subtle references in the plot, you can immediately say the writer is literate, smart and attentive. "Something Like an Autobiography" is one of these great references: it immediately creates a connection with one of the greatest movie directors/visual storytellers ever, Kurosawa, and alludes to his most famous movie, Rashomon, dealing with how various people who have witnessed a murder of a samurai in a forest differently describe the events relating to the murder. They are all telling the truth, but the truth greatly varies according to their own point of view. After the movie release (1950), acclaimed as a masterpiece all over the world, these differences in testimonies are called "rashomon effects" in (real) crime investigations. And this is just one reference, there are many others, nicely intertwined to be functional to the story
One must be just a poor ignorant (or a big as**ole) to downrate such a good drama.
Don't know if anyone shared this yet but this is the book TQ left behind for SCC in episode 1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something_Like_an_AutobiographyThe…
Oh, I was wondering if it was Kurosawa's autobiography I've read not long time ago in Italian translation (Un'autobiografia o quasi) but forgot to check... Omg, it was such an interesting book, his world is such an eye-opener, or better, all senses - opener, I recomend it to everybody. No wonder the author wanted to homage the Great Master Thank you so much
That song is the theme song of the drama they spoofed in his dream. 《Du Qing 渡情》 from the 90s drama New…
Oh, thank you so much for this clarification... I've actually had a feeling the creators were making reference to some popular older show (strange hairdos and melodramatic vibe of the song), for the purposes of parody. Without knowing, I "knew" the reference/homage must have been a xianxia, the progression 10 years, 100 years, 1000 years, typical in xianxias... were clearly years of cultivation/tribulation couples need to suffer in order to be with each other, that's why I've clicked immediately with it, almost chocked on laughter.
And reflecting on the verses (one person wrote the original verses in a comment under this video which I've copied on google translate), the song is actually beautiful, very emotional, what makes it funny is the excess of emotion (in the execution, too) and addictiveness, so characteristic for old songs (and generally, music in old movies and dramas).
Now, this video is on my repeat mode 😂😂😂 Thank you again
Hearing the song, I've choked on laughter. Twice. 😂😂😂 "Ahaha-ha, ahaha-ha The beauty of the West Lake in March the mellow spring rain and smoky willows fate brings couples from their way and drives the strangers away It took us 10 years to be on the same boat and 100 years to share the same pillow. If there's a fate for 1000 years we'll fall in love and together grow old Lala-la, lalala-la..." So gross & melo and yet so good and addictive. All bgm and osts are well chosen but this song stands out, it's terrific! And how his neck ached in a dream while fictional Su Miao was pressing him because in reality he was knocked out being hit on the neck... and later, the scene on the boat with this song in bg.... Can't stop rewatching them 😂😂😂
Finally an engaging and entertaining drama from the very start, even the trailers for the next two eps look promising, it's reasonable to presume we'll have a lot of fun watching it. ML is hilarious, the actor's microexpressions are so on point, Li Landi is also a great choice for the FL's role and the side characters are far from disturbing, on the contrary, I'm so positively surprised by the actress playing FL's alias Su Miao, she mimics well SCC's gross behaviour. Here, one of the best C- scriptwriters/original creators, Tong Hua, drags the audience into a romantic comedy genre, exploring an unchartered territory: stronger FL (at least, physically) liking a guy who percieves her as a bully, a person who scared the sh*t out of him when they were in the school, who makes him shiver, out of fright, even disgust, not certainly desire to be with her... and being the ML a romantic person who awaits his "one and only" in life, this relationship cannot develop without certain "filters" helping them to understand each other better. That's why FL's shape-shifting via magic object (bracelet) is such a logical and plotwise breakthrough, which can also add some complements (critics to general social perception of beauty, relationships etc.). As far as I can remember, rare C-dramas I've seen with strong(er) female lead and weak(er) ML were Oh My General (I loved a lot Ma Si Chun in the role of a general, one of her best performances) and Starry Love (with Li Landi as well, so she's certainly a great casting choice here). The only flow I've noticed till now is directing, while I found brilliant the opening scene (in the bus), its lenght and how it was shot, the tennis scene was too long and not that well shot (it was too long, and for those who play tennis is too obvious Tan Jianci is not a tennis player, his moves were not in the direction of the ball). Finally, I feel we'll have some great music choices, too. This drama will definitely score very high, I'm lookin' forward
Well, you can tell that you are not watching The First Frost when her character is a broken person who has gone…
I've seen the trailer and half of the 1st ep. Flatmate with ML, admiring abs, clumsiness which is supposed to be cute... it looked like a copycat of My Boss, I've dropped very fast last year. And I didn't sat she can't play at all, I've said she always plays the same characters which is annoying
Well, if you think I should still watch it, I'll put a bit more effort, but I still think BJT's talent is wasted in dramas of this genre
BJT coupled with an actress who can only play dumb and clumsy characters in the same copycat dramas (is this drama a replica of last year's My Boss?) is such an unbelievable waste of (his) talent, money, time and energy.
Thank you both. It looks like it is her/his first drama play, I haven't found any other screenplays. That's probably why dialogues and plot suffer, salvaged only by the experienced directing
Not sure if Chen Mo's parents are divorced in the book. I read the last few chapters/extra chapters machine translated…
yes, you are right about that friendship with QJY's dad, he has certain experience in dealings with patriarchal ways of life. Lets hope this friendship will help Chen Mo's dad to turn around on his authoritative ways, he can't continue to live in his own parallel universe
I'm sooo invested in this drama. Can people who read the novel spoil me, will Chen Mo's parents divorce? Idk how long I can stand her egocentric father... although just 8 eps left, that character invokes harsh slaps...
I've never thought I'd like a drama with such a heavy "youth genre" in it, but the dialogues are spotless, the story simply flows and keeps me engaged all the time. All the actors are delivering their roles, incredible. It deserves higher rating
