If iQiyi is inclined to push the drama aside, that could be the reason. It's okay with me if TWOT doesn't gain as much attention or popularity as HL, but it's satisfying to see him take on more serious roles like this.
As you mentioned, tragic stories aren't as popular as dramas with happy endings. People often prefer to avoid reality by enjoying romance dramas with super happy endings. When they know the ending is tragic, they tend not to start watching in the first place.

Nevertheless, I hope for the best for CZY; he still has a long way to go as an actor 🙂

I sometimes wish I could ignore the toxic culture in C-ent that often spreads hate and misinformation, but since he's a Chinese actor, I can't completely ignore it. It's really disheartening. I would love to see him in a drama outside of Chinese platforms, like a Netflix original. However, that seems unlikely since he's with iQiyi.

C-ents are so complicated when it comes to traffic stars. There's YXH and other haters trying to drag CZY down, almost as if they're afraid he'll become more popular.
Even though he's very popular internationally, his agency doesn't always react appropriately to everything.
They ignore bullying and misinformation from haters, remaining quiet, with only Yuanbao stepping up to protect him.
Despite being under iQiyi, which owns the platform, his agency doesn't seem proactive in finding good projects for him.
They also haven't responded well to brands that have reached out to them previously.

I'm actually more into suspenseful investigation dramas than romance dramas because they keep me immersed in the storyline until the end. I'm really looking forward to DNAD too. I find it quite hard to finish romance dramas that don't show improvement or progress in the storyline. I finished HL because I like watching CZY's acting, and his micro-expressions fascinate me.

Knockout was the most viewed Chinese drama last year and on iQiyi.

I have never seen him act in aggressive romantic scenes before, perhaps he avoided those kinds of scripts altogether. Even in 'Mr. Bad,' where he was supposed to be the antagonist, he portrayed a softer side in romantic scenes.
However, there are ways to write scripts for aggressive romantic scenes with the consent of the female lead, for instance ML expresses his desire aggressively over FL but ensures FL's consent before proceeding 🤭🫣
Anyway, if CZY were to act in such scenes, I would definitely watch it because I admit I am biased. 😅
