Can us fans of the second couple (Wen Lang & Gao Tu) be allowed to enjoy the show and complain if we don’t…
IDK, I don't feel guilty at all. Jst bcs second couple arc is righ now (or until this mmnt better, we shall see once the power game switches) doesn't mean i don't like the mains either, like some insist on suggest here, so what to be guilty about (and even if i hated mains...so what?). :D

The slow burn is boring me and honestly no major events happen in each episode feel they gonna give us a rushed…
imho they have done strategic mistake with the trailer. those who didn't read the book should have know 1/16 of what was in the trailer if it is really what is the series about. they have issues with wow moments too, but if you can enjoy the cold-blooded underlaying play then you can enjoy this even with its tempo (oh she's sweet but a psycho, a little bit psycho)😁

sorry but it’s not two main couples. It’s main couple and side couple. Sorry if you get the impression it…
Pity a can't screenshot here. Anyways, those who didn't read original material and don't intend so might want to know info from it too, yes, but are not obliged to care about anthing besides promotional stuff about the live action - which is basically trailer + descriptions for it.
And as i stated before, even main characters aren't obliged to appear in every episode either.

ok, i believe i refered to them as "main couple" and "second couple", but if i referred to them equally, it was because i checked out trailer today. go check out that one too. after that, you should know by what ppl get confused. even then i would say they are main and second, on the other hand that do allow a writer to show them once in five chapter (bad plotting imho, but ok), but not movie makers to not show one of 4 main characters of short series that air once a week at all in an episode. As i said before - it could be solved by quick phone call or visit of a friend/sister/relative. If there is little to nothing in the book of the second main couple, then scratchin it for live action or making them support character of no significance is better solution. (The same would be probably wiser for the book too, but books are books and live action drama is liveaction drama.)
TY for the info about the book. It leaves us to not proper translation into audiovisual language if you say the author is not the typical explicit scenes author.

Btw i dont think before LITA something like that existed...? or...?
Hmmm, there is no such a rule u have all mains present all the time, in every episode or even in every fourth episode, that is true. However from experience and observation and esp with short formated series (as is this) you should know how frquently and for how long to show who. Anything out of expectation will cause havoc. U are probably right that many confuse these terms. U don't have to stick to any rules, however if u are a little bit sofisticated about things, you will heed them and even twist them. That being said, no equality exist, but it is extreme not to include one of 4 main chacters for the length of an episode in short formated series that airs once a week (!if there is no reason like sickness or death!). Even in low budgeted series the character just appears - making a phone call, visiting relative, somehing. Just for the form. Ppl still complain, but at least they don't fear actor was kicked out in the middle of the shooting.
Switching mains... for real and without it being the initial intention, and still there was no official switch, but the havoc around it and ppl-I experienced it 2 times if that could be called like that.
1. was for big refual of main couple - and i of course mean HIStory4: Close to You.
The second time i can recall is for opposite purposes - in something whee you could not expect that it popped out and overshined main couple where everone then came for the second couple when they found out they are seriously doing gay couple there, and it is Love Is Science?
everything else i can recall rn was a bad writng or not well landed intention. So yes, it is rare and it always have a reason behind.

hmmm, yes, that, but i more like mean switching from side /support couple to main couple, dividing it equally and not making it like several stories in one series - but you are probably correct, similarly could be considered Y destiny where other couples appeared for each other too 🙏

check out our conversation with Reset - you are right, and it might be very well the author-problem issue (lacking experience, being involved in moviemaking and who knows what is in the book, but at least she seems to understand psychology of characters). so at places, for some ppl/situations/things, we meet with very stiff acting/visual story telling. so i agree with you

Thank you. I get her, she has a good point too from psychological perspective of the characters, however - you need for these nuances skilled, well trained or good experienced actor and you need to DELIVER that very clearly. Bcs if you don't, then you will leave people hanging, not sure if you meant it this or that way. I love Jiang Heng, but I didn't see fromt he result he is on that level yet. AKA it was not directed properly clear-cut-clean. (Overall Jiang Heng is showed in the series very self-aware of himself and for that reason stiff. However there are points where he definitelly isn't like that, so he can do well later on. But. They are making this overall moe difficult than it has to be.)

Before I start, everybody should know that I don't think the 2nd couple is better I simply prefer their story;…
That is actually true too - Hua Yong is sweet little psycho and his co partner is just.. too sure of himself at places. So if you are not for these specific traits clashing, power games, dominance... covertly budding childhood turning into adult romance, soulmates of sorts thing, you will hear no end about how toxic their relatinship is and never should rather happen in the first place. If you dont feel a little psychotic yourself, you will not enjoy their story yet. But you will start worry about their line. Gao Tu comes from toxic family and is full of worries and insecurities. That hits for many of us = more relatable character. His partner again... is an idiot, but since it is Gao Tu's prince charming, we will... close out eyes i guess. plus last two episodes he really showed he is more than superfical jerk with his comments towards Hua Yong, so we start to see Gao's point of view a little too (plus again the memories of past, but that relates to both couples). ..."audience always wants to know why they're rooting for a character."... i am not too hard on that. I am positive i find a why even if i don't "know" specifically. But i am complicated personality unlivable with, dont mind me.

Ahhhh... how to put this? If that is true, i must agree. From my perspecttive, it takes lifetime to learn one craft as much as one can. And i mean writing. If you try to split... for whatever reason... again lets say, whoever who is more talented and dedicated their lifetime to learn their craft is gonna nail the work much better. Still, it is pretty impresive if it is self-made. With all the positives and negatives it involves. Here comes the imbalance between people reading masters in writing but as well seeing masters in moviemaking and then... seeing everything in the middle. We all became experts but without the hard work behind actual creation. Is it unfair? It is. Both the author and the audiences have their strong points.
And SHOWING PACING in audiovisuial is exactly i know would overthink too and for that reason did wrong... even though it might be the easiest for me when writing (or i just know when it will be good because i feel it). But - translating it into different language? Even explaining it with words? No, thank you. THAT is the gap between crafts that is very difficult to... well, learn. And despite being control freak, i would have some serious considerating what and how to do if that chance ever occured. But i am overthinker, i know i would have to let it go to other people's hands. The thing considering here though is - if the orig. authorr wasn't the director too, who would do such a series? In which case - it should be rated differently. Because it is basically... trying something that wouldn't give birth otherwise to make live. And that is - considering cultural side and what the series is about - on and of itself heroic deed.

The problem with adapting a novel to a series is that they’re two different kinds of entertainment and character…
Yes, soul sister, agreed on everything. I was just thinking today about how thin line it must be director-editor too. You might have a vision, but what if you have 2, 5, 8 artists on set and everyone would like to push it through different vibe pipehole. I can't appreciate enought that. I struggle as it is with the cacophony called writing. And that is difficult enough. I can't imagine cooperating with multiple people on my visions (maybe because of the multiple people in my head, yeah, true :D).

Wow, I see fans of the main couple cannot take that people might actually see the second couple as better and can't even stand reading about it. Maybe don't read discussions or choose users who praise only the first or both couples equally, if you are so keen to give advice to people with other perspectives?
To dive deeper: I get it might be annoying for some. But... but.
People who are watching and were not fans previously of the book, people who come into it seeing and knowing it is very possible to add scenes into a live action drama that were not in the book, people who actually don't like the story of the main leads at all for various reasons and yet are staying for other reasons – we all see it could have been balanced better. I don’t care how many misdeeds happened in the original – look at Revenged Love – the book is written by one and corrected by a few, but movies are made by many and should try even more to improve + translate into audiovisual language.

I absolutely see what the series makers were seeing as important in this episode, I am not disagreeing with their choice. But if you work with two main couples, you should reflect how they complement or oppose, mirror each other, what is the purpose of each, and in the most general sense: the second couple should be used for deaf places of the mains. Because of that, you have two different groups of people watching it for different purposes, and that is good. WORK with it. Even if the book didn’t. Because if you don’t, then you should have a strong plot or strong characters in the main leads so the second leads could be scratched out completely. Which means – NO deaf places at all, and today it as well means very, very strong romance-desire-sexual-relationship attraction that is gonna fill out 100%. See? Revenged Love. If there were only the main couple and support characters, the series/story would still work without the second couple. Do we love the second couple? Yes. Absolutely. Are they as strong as the mains? No, not in the end. But we are glad they are present and they have their purpose. But still – scratch them out and the story of the main leads would be the same strong because of the tools they used in the making.

As I am writing this, one idea why it is not the case of ABO Desire occurs. And that is – if they have chosen a book full of sex scenes, as omegaverse would suggest, based on “ppl buying it so they will buy series too strategy” then there was little plot to begin with probably, which might result in what we have here now. Problem with intertwining second couple in (and yes, that is not saying the book didn't struggle with the same problem to begin with, maybe there is where starts the problem). As we know China and their non existent explicitness right now, what Thailand would use wor bad story without hesitation which could delete some of the deaf places too, China cannot. The problem then is with the CHOICE of what to adapt into live action. If you choose something you cannot or don’t have the guts to adapt, then your work is difficult and you are basically adapting it for the scrap of people who hope to see something in live action that is never even possible to show there in the first place. But they will still come - for the sake of completion.
Or vice versa - maybe the book is written so well the main leads are really he focus and fill out, but it is not the case of the live action drama. Then again, if you do (like create) live action you should be aware of the fact that even the second couple is way more visible than it might have been in the book. And you should work with that.
And some plotholes? As a movie maker - you should connect the dots, even if author didn't.

To wrap it up. You have the right to be mad about people complaining, and the complaining people have the right to complain.
It would be nice if those who are fans just stated so because you are complainig from different point than might others. Without knowing who is fan of who or what we will not come to any consensus, and everyone with eyes and experience can see there are huge rooms for improvements in this series, but many of us would love to support despit that everyone who participated on this project. Understood? So no reason or rhyme to be mad at each other, it is still a form of showing love - even the complaining - for which everyone should be grateful. It means peple care and we wouldn't have this series without people who care.
