Look, I understand wanting to defend the drama, but saying that all the criticism is just “made-up hate” doesn’t really make sense. When the ratings are low on both Douban and MyDramaList, there’s usually a pattern in the feedback — it’s not just a random group trying to drag it down. Of course, there can be exaggeration and some people criticizing without real reasons, but there are also many who clearly explain what didn’t work, like the writing, pacing, or adaptation. Ignoring all of that ends up being just as unreliable as hating something for no reason. In the end, it’s totally fine to like the drama even with low ratings — but pretending the criticism has no basis is a different story.
That alone makes me not want to read her novel 11 Chu Te Gong Haung Fei 😭because from what I read she admitted…
Even ignoring the whole plagiarism issue, the drama already had enough problems on its own. It wasn’t the copying accusations that brought the C-drama down — the real issue was the many plot holes, lack of consistency, and questionable directing choices. In the end, those factors weighed much more than any external controversy. A truly successful drama usually isn’t brought down by hate — when the story is strong and well executed, the audience supports it.
I’ve come to the conclusion that if there's a lot of hate towards a drama on MDL, it's probably good and I might…
It’s not about hate. Negative comments often come from people who watched part of the show and simply didn’t connect with it—and that’s okay. You don’t always have to finish something to form an initial opinion. Also, the criticism this c-drama received is based on real audience feedback, like ratings on Douban, so it’s not something made up. At the same time, this doesn’t invalidate those who enjoyed it. Everyone has their own taste, and people are free to watch and like what they want. In the end, the healthiest approach is to respect different opinions and keep the discussion balanced, without turning criticism into personal attacks.
I am under impression there is whole army of people trying to tank this drama. Very sad, because it is very good…
It’s not sabotage — it’s simply a matter of different tastes and opinions. Everyone judges a drama based on their own expectations and feelings, and not every highly anticipated show will appeal to everyone. Criticism is part of the process, and it also helps highlight different perspectives on the work.
Do you remember or just know about any other highly awaited show ending on Douban below 4.0? Or at least 5.0?
I’ve honestly never seen something like this before. Even low-budget dramas usually don’t drop this badly on Douban. This feels like a rare case where the score just kept falling until the end, which is really unusual—especially for a high-investment S-level production.
