To cover both novels would take 9-10 seasons at this pace (going by # of chapters). The novels are epically long, especially the first one.

In the drama we probably won’t see much progress between the two of them until end of Season 2 or Season 3 (if they make them). The source novel, animated donghua, and live action drama are all about cultivation with very little romance. NGW doesn’t have a lot of scenes in the live action drama but novel readers told us the book had even less!

As others mentioned, it’s part of his strategy. Thibk of it as playing a video game and your character is Level 10. You may fight enemies a few levels above you, but if you see a Level 50 monster, you are going to avoid the battle, go get some more XP, level up, get more items, better weapons and only then come back for a fight.

Haha, I get your point. But at least in AYtO the main bad female actually got it pretty bad. She wasn’t favored in the palace, got framed for poisoning Emperor & Empress, and went crazy after that. Inthink in that drama it works out okay because the heroes weren’t tortured/beaten like they were in Peony/Blossom.

Apparently in the book the drowning thing made sense. The experts explained that in the novel it was a naval battle and then FL had a PTSD moment (she originally died/was killed by drowning or something like that). So that’s when ML saved her (no underwater kiss, I think?).

Hopefully it’s just an MDL glitch. Recently a lot of new dramas have started off with very low ratings.

This is a very thorough review and hopefully it will convince others to give this drama a chance. It’s really exceptionally done and the main sticking point (ML’s leaving) is somewhat rectified by everyone telling him he was very, very wrong 😳
