I think Ian would absolutely enjoy being King. I don't think Hui Ju would enjoy being Queen w/o some major updates to the rules.

And yes...all male children would have claim to the throne. But if a concubines son was born first...and then the legitimate wife had a son second...that legitimate son would leapfrog the concubines son for lineage purposes.

For whatever reason that premarital baby line isn't a throwaway one. Whether she lied about being pregnant to get the King to marry her or the baby was conceived before marriage (potential scandal even if not directly a lineage issue) it is something that will likely come back in the show.

Once again. I said I didn't know if this was an issue with Korean lineage or no...but I *do* know that different places handled this diff...which is what I said initially.

Same. I'm currently kicking myself for starting this drama.

Monastic and noble rules when it comes to lineage tend not be the same as those for the general population. And this has been a story line in historical romances I've watched before. When the child is conceived tends to matter in this context.

I think his response was correct. He genuinely cares for her and doesn't want her in danger for a hollow title. She's also correct. You don't bend to these fools. He's done that enough. She needs him to soften some of those edges. He needs her so he can become the King he was meant to be.

And part of me thinks maybe he could beat the ambition out of him? Like he obviously outshone the CP at every turn - likely from youth - so he hated b/c he was everything his brother wasn't. I don't know. His hate for his son seemed really, REALLY personal.

Yeah. I get way. But curious if it has something to do with the mom too. That's a lot of hostility just because he was born second.

Notice how the older brother was the only one truly grieving for the King. His brother was there - but not nary a tear.

Couple of things here --

1. Ol'girl is gonna have to stop acting like marrying Ian doesn't come with rules. Learn the things you need to learn so they can't attack you from that angle. That part of her personality is irking me a bit.

2. Ian is gonna have to learn from her that he's gonna have to *break* some rules for this to work. Baby stepping it like they want means too many opportunities for things to go left. You're gonna have to stay at your house, take her to state events, you gotta elevate her status with the public from "girlfriend" to "potential wife" and quickly so no can argue with you. He's irking me too.

I expect everyone to get it together in Act 2. lol

They didn't skimp on the budget...except for the number of episodes.

Yeah. I was wondering that too. Where they saying he has a diff mom than his older brother?

WHAAT?? They were dating - why would it have to be drugged? I hope you don't mean the father-in-law. lol

12 episode - Act 2 should start at episode 5. Hopefully they continue to pace this well.

This. I'm not saying he is Ian's child - I'm saying he was conceived prior to marriage with the former King which (I beleive) would make him ineligible for the throne.

No. I don't think the child is Ian's (that's just fun level of crazy thought) - I'm saying I think she was pregnant by the former King before she was married.

Yeah. They seem friendly. And they laughed and what not. But the whole episode was a whole lot of under current and brinkmanship between those two.
