I don't see how you watch this and can't see that she clearly likes him. Like doesn't mean love and want to have your babies. But interest and feelings are there and the show subtly displays this. Hell, she was jealous when ol'girl showed up at the dinner. lol. She doesn't beleive a relationship is possible...and romantic love isn't her priority...and he hurt her feelings with the bait...so yeah, she's gonna be chill about it. There's no where for it to go.

I don't think every decision has to be seen through romance. But she liked him when she thought he was Hal. And she's hurt that this person would do that, beyond a "that's not cool". I would be more angry than hurt if my boss did that. It would piss me off, not have me sad. She was hurt b/c she cares about him.

Eh..Bai Lu plays the same role almost always and has a limited acting range...but it works..mostly. She's a Chinese Jason Statham in that regard. Now, in fairness Ms. Yanxi Palace does the same...but I think she overall has more acting range than Bai Lu.

See I ABSOLUTELY love Fuzhi's pink, girlish dresses and style. She intentionally gives off a pretty, sweet, young lady appearance while being an absolute mad woman. She's like a pretty ray of sunshine that will shank you. Love it!

Will agree to disagree with a lot of what is said here...but this part "...naively unbending when it comes to law like FL ." She's not naive - she's impulsive and her background "do what it takes to survive or die" informs a lot of her decisions.
She's not like Jadewind FL who - while her past was mysterious and tragic - was raised by the emperors favorite courtesan and almost always had his (the emperor's favor).
In this drama her love interest is the EMPEROR. lol. Of course there are power dynamics.. Yeah the relationship is skewed...in her favor. lol. She doesn't show him the modicum of respect and gratitude she should under the circumstances. And that's part of the reason why he likes her.
I like this drama more if I'm being honest b/c of everything that is going on and how well they blend everything. These writers know how to tell a story (so far) and allow even the side characters to shine. It's also fun, while touching on series issues and is very clear about what kind of story it is and what kind of story it is trying to tell.

Eh...I think the only thing they have in common is their focus on cases and the underlying female empowerment vibe. This one does a better job of not feeling repetitive and incorporating all of the cast and keeping all the various thread relevant throughout. This one also has a more developed love story with two side couples to boot.
So I went back and watched earlier episodes that I skipped and I realize the Emperor does know she's the girl he saved 10 years prior. That makes how she gets out of the mess she's about to get into make sense now.
She stabs the one who enslaved her and killed her sister and gets taken to court for it. She doesn't have proof of his crimes tho. So of course the officials want her head. So something has to give. Either the emperor or Yin Qing would have to come forward right?
