literally it couldn't be the case with chenglei since he doesn't even have that many fans compared to other actors .... and with bailu being FL obviously other famous actors could play the ML against her... but he was chosen becuase based on his previos roles he played he's also fit for that role {i agree that he has been playing similar roles but that not his choice all the time is just what he got famous for and what people liked to see him in} ... i would also say he's not the only "pretty face" in the industry if you feel like this is the only reason ...

i agree with you on the point of prince Li having the right to take back his rightfull throne and the MoLi should help him... but in terms for who we should root for the thing is in this drama and other dramas from similar story they want to convey that there's no ultimate bad people and good people ... sometimes good people make bad and terrible decision and they should be held accountable to their decision. [for examples the bad guys in pursuite of jade all had a warming backstory the conveyed them both the villin and the vectim].
In this drama is the same but the plot hasn't completly unravelled yet ... until now we actually don't know extactly what happend in the past except from the presective of the people that is in complete ... or from the FL hereself who's unreabible narritor given her mental state.... that's why i think the plot is actually brillient you don't know who you should root for because simply we don't know the full story of what happend ... and you feel like you have to follow the FL because simply the plot is narrated from her pov. and up untill now her brain doesn't even recogized the truth of what happend .... so as a view your following her version of the truth untill we get the full view. ...
another example of no villin is being completly evil and it's just a cycle of revenge is princess dowager herself, the story we know about her, she was bullied by the old empyior and the east place queen ... so she took the oppourtuinity to kill her when the emyrior died and make the rebuilion ... however from when we see her in these days she seems so smart and trying to act as if she's allways supported the "good"... you can see in ep27 that she was shocked when Marquis Muyang reminded her that the past can't be simply forgotten because he did all the dirty work for her... in her own version of truth she beilve she's a good person who killed the bad empyrer and queen and drove the whole country to the peace instead constant fighting and killing of people. . . she also get braised by how she was kind of letting prince Li alive all this period ... (also for the Consort Dowager she entered the balace very young and was buillied as well and she feel like she saved her even when she decived her all these years)
for the fight with Cangbei .... that's the thing, yes they're enemies but the countries now want peace and stop the killing of innocient people again .... even the garde of ML said eventhough his whole famility died because of Cangbei and he wished to take revenge in the war field again .... he knows that stopping the waar is the wise thing for the benefit of people .... that's also linked to the Cangbei's princess, she removed her father from being the king and stopped the war and started peace nagotiation, so even though she was from an enemy country, she wished that could have a simple life and she sympathized with the people living in the north ... removed her father who was the problem .. so she was still a good person who did good for the sake of people form both countries

what do you mean he lack expression!!!. maybe you should pay attension to his microexpression. he was litrarly braised in other similar roles for being able to convey the chracters with his eyes and microexpression. this review just seems like general baised hate or you really can't enjoy something unless it's so obvious. he is not a bad actor he have his style that suits the roles he took recently and got braised for his acting style. if you don't like it others do, they don't need to change him for anyother actor in this drama cause litrary he's the perfect for this carachter.
