would've been better without the time skip forward, I personally really hate any drama with time skip, a lot can happen in those years that's been skipped. any normal human would move on or experience new emotions and relationships and not be the same, any at least a bit of a move on. so if they reunite after those years, the happiness and relief of reuniting is lesser than it would've been a bit earlier. the ending could've been any of them finding a way to travel to the other or even run away from traveling.
