The way the main character, Gu Cheon, exorcises ghosts is especially fun. Instead of simply performing traditional exorcisms, he literally enters the spirit world and fights them with a sword, giving the series a strong anime-like action vibe. The visual design of the spirit world also reminded me quite a bit of Stranger Things.
The choreography and sound design are also impressive, while the cinematography is clean, polished, and visually beautiful.I also really enjoyed the subtle romance between the two main leads , the kind of relationship where they are both willing to sacrifice their lives for each other without needing to constantly express it dramatically.
I particularly enjoyed Cho Seung Woo as the King and Jang Young Nam as the Empress Dowager . Both of their characters have this completely evil, unsettling aura. Honestly, they were even scarier than the ghosts themselves 😒The story has plenty of twists and turns, along with quite a few plot twists. Amid all the palace intrigue, we get to see people using the supernatural world to manipulate events, as well as their cunning personalities and political schemes.
One thing I especially want to praise is the editing team for ending almost every episode in a way that made me want to immediately watch the next one. The story itself was already interesting, but the pacing was handled really well, with the rises and falls carefully balanced. Because of that, I was able to fully enjoy the story and ended up binge-watching episode after episode without wanting to stop.
I also really liked the inclusion of a cute-looking supernatural creature in the spirit world. Throughout the story, this little creature ended up becoming almost as important as Gu Cheon himself.The one thing that didn’t quite sit right with me was the warning at the beginning saying that people who are easily scared shouldn’t watch ii because honestly, there wasn’t a single scene that I found genuinely frightening or terrifying.

Throughout Luo YunXi’s artistic journey, this is the drama with the best camera work / cinematography so far. It sometimes has a Netflix-style, Western crime-scene vibe , the shots are beautifully composed. You can tell the director put a lot of thought into the camera work. The framing, color aesthetics, and overall crime-drama mood are all on point.
Out of the six cases, I honestly enjoyed all the side cases. My favorite is Li Xuting’s “Spider Cocoon Murder” case. Just like Luo Yunxi said the moment you start thinking “this guy might be the killer,” he ends up dead 🤣
However, the main villain and overall plot felt weak. The professor’s motive wasn’t well developed, and plot holes became more obvious toward the end. And I really don’t like how they treated towards screen time of Qi SiZhe and Captain Zhu in last episodes.

At its core, WOF is really about Tan Li’s long life journey. The rest of the characters are simply people he meets and interacts with along the way. As for Yemo, there should have been a stronger and more detailed storyline and structure. I’ve read everything you guys wrote, and I’ve also come to understand some things that were difficult for me to grasp before.

After rewatching SLY, I actually felt more irritated. Since I’m a shonen anime fan, I was genuinely happy at first, thinking this genre would be totally my thing. But there are some unnecessary and pointless parts, and watching some people who clearly can’t act is honestly a kind of torture.
TLC vs Yemo special battle should have been included properly. Guimudan should have been introduced from the very beginning to set up the story. I’m really not satisfied with the plot. It should have been much better than this.
Some characters are extremely charismatic, but others are so lacking in appeal that they make you sleepy the moment they appear on screen. That said, the fight scenes, OSTs, and background music are good, so it’s still entertaining. But after rewatching, I can’t help feeling frustrated with the plot.
