Because he's the biggest traffic star among the cast, idk how to explain it but his traffic is really high, like…
Haha if there's something to brag, why not brag :)) I can see how much you guys love him, always good to know more about the casts. At least you are staying respectful and informative.
If I remember right, even back in 2023 it was mostly the deng wei fans hyping here along with some excited source fans. The others were few or not even formed yet XD I didn't see him on screen before so this will be the first, looking forward to seeing him act!
Yes they changed SML and 3ML's place . Sakujun is now SML and The SML in the novel is played by riley wang as…
Yes, it was very sad for both of them. It's realistic in that despite not getting a happy ending, they managed to leave a better world and life for the next generation. The daughter didn't get the curse and she was also able to become the ruler of the country. So the barriers her mom had worked so hard to break had been broken and her dad's sacrifice was also given meaning. He probably did blame himself even though it wasn't his fault. Shurei chose how she'd spend the rest of her life and they were able to leave a legacy behind. And yes they didn't leave out the other characters too.

Same here, I actually found Ryuki very tragic in his personal relationships. Shurei seemed a bit aro coded but idk if that was a thing when it was written. He was only able to have a very brief married life with her before she died at childbirth. He isolated himself somewhat in the later years after his daughter grew up. It by no means is a fluffy shoujo story that people would normally expect. They'd never have adapted that anyway but I thought they'd keep the tone and characters consistent after seeing the first trailer ages ago. Not sure about now.

Saiunkoku had a lot going on, the segment with the 2ml is only a small part of it. It was more a political, historical fantasy focusing on the characters journeys. It has a great cast of supporting characters too.
Shurei's only love interest had always been ryuki and to an extent, sakujun due to the impact he left. And it was mostly one sided on both their parts for the majority of the story. She was simply in civil service and worked in fields that were almost entirely male dominated and considered beyond women's abilities and interests. Thus the abundance of male characters.
It doesn't mean everyone is in love with her or that she was choosing lover from a harem of men. Riley's character is mistaken to be a love interest in the original by some too even though his affection towards her was more mutually familial and protective instead of turning romantic. She earned the respect and admiration of the characters in her vicinity both male and female, due to her talent and efforts; which in a shoujo series full of handsome men was easy to label as sth else.
Shurei was very caring but her affection, attention and appreciation to others were of different kinds- familial or friendly or aesthatic but never really of the romantic kind. Sakujun's aggressive romantic pursuit of her, his actions and his subsequent death were what had first given her a glimpse of what this love can entail. It opened her eyes to some sides and thoughts of people she was previously not very conscious of. It also caused her to re-evaluate ryuki's words and actions and see them in a different light. Even if she wasn't feeling the same at that point, it let her be aware of it and understand his feelings better, instead of being dismissive or ignorant of it.
It's actually a very mature and unconventional portrayal of a fml in a historical fantasy shoujo series, specially in those days.
Ps. If you are worried fans of the og will keep annoying everyone else, don't be lmao.
That's a wishful thinking but there will be no more anime of it. You can just think it as alternate universe.
At this point a remake is more likely than a continuation tbh. Yona of the Dawn got announced for a 2nd season after 11 years so good to have hopes I guess XD

Omg this. Love triangle this, love triangle that, when the original wasn't even a love angle. It was far more realistic and political than just some reverse harem romance fantasy. Shurei was far ahead of her time. She was an ambitious, independent young girl with so much at stakes and never really showed interest in having a romantic relationship. She was brilliant, hardworking and so focused on breaking barriers for women of that era, that any sort of chasing were more troublesome and threatening for her. Seiran was never her love candidate either despite what people think or ship.
She had chosen Ryuki in the end because she could see how respectful and understanding of her he was and how much he sacrificed for her sake despite his position as king. Even then Ryuki had to wait over a whole decade for her to say yes to him and that too was near the end of her life. She always had her career in focus and wanted to do better for the country and it's people. I'd hate it if she got reduced to some funny prize in a love triangle. I'm trying not to expect much, but we'll see how it goes.
I'll just say it since it keeps getting brought up, THIS drama in particular was never about exactly adapting the novel or the fmc of that novel nor about misogyny or being a statement on women representation; unless the author, director, scriptwriter and most of the production team being women counts.
HPJC was more about an artist and her muse. It's director Zhou Xiao's passion project that was born from her desire to make a drama centered around Tian Jia Rui. She started writing a script with him in mind and found this low ip, niche novel which was still incomplete. It had the perfect setting and exactly the kind of solo leading character she was looking for. Coming across it was convenient, or else she'd have to write the whole thing by herself and it still wouldn't change the main casting choice.
The director had a specific artistic vision when she saw his birthday photoshoot in 2024 and him in this role fit that vision to a T. But the character was a woman and Tian Jia Rui can't suddenly grow ovaries just to play that character. NRTA doesn't like genderbending either, so it had to be a ml i.e, at the very least she was gonna have to do major reworking on it at the base level.
But it still couldn't be called an original work as it were first heard. And without buying the necessary rights there'd be plagiarism accusations later, which is what the complaints initially started as, not the "erasure of women", which only appeared when she was posting about having the author's approval and full legal clearance. The rights were bought with the agreement that they could take what they needed while having full creative freedom to add, subtract and alter plotlines, characters and other details. They tailored it around TJR instead of the other way around. Even if it meant having to wait over a year for it.
Now, not just the actor, this project is also important for Zhou Xiao. She's a young micro drama director trying to pivot to full length drama series with HPJC and prove she can do serious work. She has limited budget, and fundings from investors are hard. She doesn't have the cash to hire high traffic actresses for such a risky non-mainstream project (and that wasn't the goal either). There's no romance to act as hook, no safe formula, no pre existing big novel fanbase, nor massive fixed audiences from established big named actors or actresses who only want to see their faves on screen and no one else.
The director put all her eggs into one basket here and was careful enough to do everything right, so much that even CCTV promoted the wrap up video and casting choice, which would be impossible if anything here was actually problematic. She has clearly been very passionate and dedicated about showing everyone the culmination of her efforts, to see her creative vision coming to life. With the recent crackdowns on cliché microdramas, a passionate and well behaved director like her needs the support 100% to come mainstream. Specially considering the way some directors out there treat their artists.
Funny how I was reminded of Crossfire too initially XD Must be because of that poster and the lack of proper e-sports dramas. But no, it says adapted from league of legends, although I'm not sure how. I'm highly intrigued either way.
I caught it later but the streaming was lagging (for c netz too, they were complaining in the chat box), so I…
Too many fandoms act rabies infected lately and think they are being very savage. When in reality people just stop responding because there's no treatment.
I have never been so starstruck by an actresses beauty and aura before. She's so effortlessly cool and elegant. I can't help but stare whenever she's on screen.

Rookie actors are easy targets since no one knows much. So you can always push everything on them and create convenient narratives. Must be embarassing seeing fandoms a decade old doing comparisons with one barely a year in.

I'll take this chance to thank you too for your hard work, can't be easy :) It's so nice that he got sensible fans who don't display unvaccinated behavior and instead stays focused on what matters :))
