If it helps to know, there will not be an offscreen gang scene as in episode 1. However, it is still a love in the style of the main characters, so there will be scenes with at least dubious consent between the leads.
I’m at a bit over 30 min into the first episode when the rich ML does something unforgivable and really tough…
In the full series he goes from a sadist who doesn’t care for anyone to first slowly falling in love, then giving everything he has to his loved one, and ending up needing to be rescued by his love from a dire situation, and reaching a happy ever after. Both main characters aren’t good men and nice people at the start, they’re manipulative and unsatisfied and it takes quite a journey for them to become furfilled and trusting. Probably episodes 1-2 show the place where they are coming from. The other many episodes are the turns and twists in the story. I remember when watching at probably around episode 5, my perception of what the early episodes showed had changed. At first it had felt too strong. But that tone didn’t continue and becomes sweeter. So as a viewer you get to experience in a way how he becomes interested and then later infatuated with what ends up as his love. So it makes the happy end feel earned. Also another warning, in the book all main characters are more manipulative and harsh than in the series which leaves out several of the more disturbing twists. So while i encourage you to continue the series, based on your comment i recommend against reading the novel.
somebody tell me, does jia hua and guang ming get together???! I really ship them so bad
Yes but i expect it to not be included in this first series to match with the flow of the novel. There has been rumors about the second series. Well, i can totally see even a third spinoff series happening if they use the extra chapters of the novel about LGM and XJH and dedicate that third series to them.

Was about to ask the same thing, someone please answer T.T
You can watch it. It is stand alone. The main characters meet again many years. It is not necessary to see their high school times to follow the new story.
