It's nothing major for someone to breakdown their breakup that deep. The fact is that In Novel both Leads had multiple physical relationships after their breakup but in this Drama version they had tone down the ML character and present him as the green flag, jealous simp, virgin ML to please the audience (which is majority females) and it works here. If that didn't happen nobody here would've liked the chen yi character but since its FL, various breakdowns and explanations will be given to justify that.

You can have a recent example for this as a reference.....everyone in the comments lashed out Lu Xixiao (NES) for a spite dating which he wasn't even invested in despite he was betrayed (for his own good as per FL, but the fact was for him he was betrayed for real) but since he was the ML he must remain pure, loyal, and wait for her and should also forgive and forget everything without complaints.
