Virtually perfect television
I absolutely loved this, it is excellently produced, directed, and filmed, and the script is and totally believeable. dialogue particularly naturalistic. Ano is just adorable and makes her part completely plausible and believable, a seemingly daffy young woman with an iron will beneath her charm. Japanese tv has a particular way with dramas like this which are apparently not about anything but are nevertheless gripping and totally watchable (see HIRAYASUMI and THE MAKANAI, for example). This sort of thing simply could not be made in the UK, where there seems a demand for 'conflict' in anything to the expense of character and reality. Just finished watching it and I am sure I will watch it again, more than once, in the years to come.
