I don't exactly know how they were selected but the awards weren't just for dramas from Tencent, Tencent starlights award is for that. This was Tencent white paper awards and i think it's based on data and included all the dramas from this year so CY won because he had highest data,

It's mostly because people were waiting for this drama for like 3 years so the expectations were really high. I really liked the chemistry between the leads but some parts of the drama could have used better directing and story telling. this drama could have been amazing with a better director and script writer.
