Wow, fabulous job. It should be left as is instead of crowd pleasing for a S2. Episode 8 melted this Ice Queen's heart. Teared up when Why Don't You Stay started playing (excellent move).
I was left without all of the answers and, yet, I am more satisfied with the conclusion. Also, I was worried that 8 episodes wouldn't be enough, but I feel it was executed well and ended up much more powerful. This will become a staple. [Now I shall go listen to my Jeff Satur playlist and start with....you guessed it- Why Don't You Stay]
Is Gu Xiang that freaking cringe during the whole drama? Ep 1 and already wanting to drop
Yes. I was right there with you, but I didn't drop it. Imo the rest was worth dealing with it. When I blocked her out, I loved it. Some GX parts were less annoying. Some...
Really thought Zhang Zhe Han and Gong Jun both were awesome. But, seriously, Gong Jun made it hard to pay attention to anyone but his character. He nailed WKX's multitude of emotions, had a nice evil crazy look a few times, and wow the "loving" eyes. Irresistible.
Note: I watched on Youku and 1. they didn't show the whole ending (thanks to fans I was able to find and watch it otherwise I would have though less of the show) and 2. Youku doesn't credit Zhang Zhe Han at all and I think that if they want to provide it on their platform then they should be obligated to credit him since he is the ML. What the what.
I read it first. I don't think I could have followed the story had I not read it first. AB is the posterchild for what happens when a govt is hell bent on censoring. It isn't even a proper bromance as censorship destroyed this show to the point that it is incoherent. I don't consider it "sanitized" because it is more like nonexistence of the story or main points. I am saddened that the hard work of the dedicated cast and crew (and resources) was made to look like the story went through a paper shredder. I can only see this show is an attempt of the govt to keep this from being popular like Addicted was. If the world is more enlightened in the future and there is a remake I will still be pissed because I want AB with Gong Jun and Xufeng.
My opinion on the likability of Jom: The biggest thing the show was missing that the novel had was Jom's inner dialogue. IMO, I really loved it and it did change the flavor a bit. That could potentialy change the likeability of Jom. I appreciated the character more after reading the novel.
Comparing the two, I actually really loved the show and while reading the novel thought many times about how much I liked the adaptation. That being said, I get why the adaptation strayed from that. I think overall, they made the right choice for the show because of how it turned out. However, as a fan, I feel I would have missed out if I had not also read it, especially regarding Jom.
My 2 cents. I am an artsy person and absolutely loved the cinematography, usage of poems, script, maturity, and... I feel it blows a lot of love stories out of the water. Rather than the firey passion take on love, it was one of the most beautifully executed potrayals of intimate timeless love. I don't know how it happened but the novel, director, screenwriters, full cast, and staff made some magic. Nonkul and Bright- wow. They are excelllent actors, very professional, and it shows. They were shooting 3-4 other shows at the time too! Bright passed on the role a few times and had to be talked into it. I don't think it would be close to what it is without him so, thank you Bright, for taking it on.
The novel was good and I will only comment on the first part to keep on topic. Because the caliber of ifylita is so high (imo), it pales in comparison across the board. It felt like one of those mediocre responses to fan demand. I didn't expect that from ifylita so it really threw me. I love ifylita and would love a sequel or more like most fans -- but ONLY IF it matches or exceeds the first season. Otherwise, don't mess with it and let ifylita stand alone as an awesome piece. I felt that they possibly made this to soothe the audience demand incase there is no season 2.

I watched the uncut version but I posted this here because, in this case, I give the same accolades. Lovely regardless of the version.
I liked it. It's dark, short, and sweet. I watched it after reading crazysexycoolpal's review and I think that helped me grasp how the three episodes were connected. I see a lot of kudos to Jeff (agreed except I am not a fan of his eye popping in ep 1), so I want to say that I liked Gameplay's performance a lot.
I really love the theme (paraphrasing) that-- in reality, you don't know who is performing and, during performances, you don't know who is being real.
Even if it isn't your thing, it is very short and worth it for the music.
Wow. 🤩 Jeff Satur's song "Comedy" was amazing. Seriously, wow.
Ummmm.... WOW! A bow to Park Sung Woong and Oh Seung Hoon. But seriously, Oh Seung Hoon, literally jaw dropping performance. I got disoriented, reoriented, then disoriented again.
About the 2 endings... Original ("sad"): I definitely had to pause for a few min. Without spoiling it... I think this is a much better ending. The quality is flat out is better than the first or all of the second up until the split where the endings change. Considering that alone, I can't say the alternate ending was better. And on an artistic level it also blew everything before that part away. Considering what happens at the end, the way it was presented in the ending scenes captured the thoughts, feelings, and how life looks when you are frozen, which I feel is quite a challenge to show in a few minutes. Kudos.
"Happy ending:" My thoughts are that it felt like it was exactly what it was, a forced revision. It felt like it followed the fake/common bl formula for a quick exit without making the audience feel bad. I watched this ending first so, I didn't quite get (without spoiling) why the event that happened after Nian left was thrown in there, but after I watched the orig ending it made more sense.
I know I am in the minority, but I wouldn't have cared for or remembered the pic as much if the orig ending didn't exist.
Also regarding Nian being "wooden" comments- I went in after already reading those comments and my impression was that even though it def looks weird and I would have liked to see Nian express himself differently in those moments, it kind of felt like "that's just Nian." He has some past emotional traumas, no self worth, and is taken aback/frozen when he is around the one he loves. He is different when Yan isn't around -and that behavior started when he was a child. So, I thought it was intentional. Who knows, I am on the outside looking in.
**I must add** if you are feeling down, or are prone to get moody or effected by shows after the fact, or melancholy-- I would avoid the original ending because, imo, it leaves you feeling heavy for awhile.
Might be true to life, but Ming is still an a**hole and Joe is sweet. I expect to see more of these comments.
Of course. Totally agree That's just my 2 cents. I feel like I've crossed paths with a lot of Mings but that doesn't make the character any lesser of an ass.
