Seriously, we've got a Gobi Desert in the book? I felt the OG source wasn't that interesting so I never made it…
Tbh, there's so much difference. Prob the biggest thing in my mind is how limited in scope the series is. I expected a focused love story but the novel has that but it encompasses larger love such as that of "outsiders" and "undesirable" semi-rural china and the value that even street people bring to the community...trying not to spoil...also how characters think or their experiences or choices they make and how they interact...the subtle humor feels missing. When I started reading it, tbh it took a little while to get into it. What first caught my attention was that the novel and the show immediately felt very different. The series felt boring but there were fans that raved about the novel so I just held on with the novel and got hooked. All the questionable issues or boredom was knocked out via the novel.
I believe it's best not to compare the original source and the drama/film. It's a different product and should…
I hear ya. Sometimes I favor a novel, other times a series, a few times I've liked both a novel and adaptation that differed...but most times, I go in knowing there will be differences and am fine about it. Dazzling just really so stripped and morphed that a multifaceted gem is unrecognizable.
I started reading the book and now I have to drop the series. This adaptation completely baffles me. I can see where maybe a scene or two might "fade to black" due to censorship....maybe....but wt!^$&. The screenwriters omitted the underlying theme, intellectual commentary, completely changed the essence of main and secondary characters.....I mean they even changed the freaking Gobi desert to the seaside. The series feels like some weird inspired loosely by or shared universe, but definitely not Dazzled. Why do I care? Because it is actually multi-dimensional and good. Maybe someone will do a worthy remake in the future. Or another country will try a true adaptation. As for people hating on this writer- it's so obvious that they haven't taken the time to really read it. Fos
Correct synopsis: "A high society Taipei pimp with a real estate side hustle becomes involved with the pregnant mistress of a married and comatose business tycoon" (from Tubi). This description also pretty much says it all. Acting etc is great, it's just do you want to watch a slice of life on this subject matter. Probably checked out by most because of sexual content.
Beautiful. I watched it bc I'm a fan of both Qu Chu Xiao and Wang Zi Wen. Once again, they were terrific. Even the child actors did an amazing job. I definitely recommend. If you watch it, make sure to watch through ending credits.
Kids at my hs always busted out in any language they could pick up whether though classes, media, or home- so to me it feels like- oh, they do that too.
It's gone from hilarious and entertaining to thoughtful and insightful- a change that has pleasantly surprised me. I've loved this series because not only is it very relevant but it had me literally bursting out laughing multiple times (nice). Now, it cleverly comments on coping with drama and social responsibility. Indeed you can't judge a book by it's cover. Usually, I watch heavier stuff and I am glad I didn't dismiss this.
Confusing as possible. It's like 2 mini shows with same actor/character names but ?? The YT "full version" is when Liang Chen is in college. The 4 ep this page appears to refer to are apparently after college and they have been together for "a few years." However, when they tell "their story" and show flash backs, not only do they completely omit the "their story" from the YT version, but they give an alt version. And a comment below says something about NC scenes, which I saw none of, so I am wondering if there is possibly yet another version floating around.
Refreshing to see a really good movie with organic visuals and genuine feeling movie. The performances (even side characters) were very realistic. Youth, infatuation, aloof, annoyed, over it, bad or mean - all very realistic and no over-the-top caricatures. The cinematography was nice and organic too. Not saturated or nostalgic, but more like letting the true flavors subtly come out. Anne Curtis was so realistic in her crying scenes that I actually paused to think about how far off so many other dramas are. Marco Gumabao nailed his character. Even scenes such as the elite dinner party looked real like compared to for example a C or K drama version. Or when you envision things going one way and when you execute it you are just mediocre and have to bow out. A very realistic take on real life situations. I guess the ratings are about that. Many people want escapism (I'm also one) but, damn, how can you not appreciate a realistic depiction such as this. Glad I stumbled upon this.
