But on the contrary, she agreed, albeit reluctantly, because she knew by taking the child's place, her niece could have a bigger chance at surviving. There's no reason for her to despise him so much to the point of leaving him there defenseless.

Won't spoil it for you, because it's the drama's biggest plot twist. But I highly doubt anyone can ever beat Haocheng. I have yet to see any villain commit the supreme acts of cruelty he did.
