Where can I watch it? I literally changed my country so many times through VPN to watch it on Viki but seems like…
you don't need VPN... look up GoPlay. a fellow fan of dramas created that site so that we can watch and download all the content from Viki, VIU, iQiyi, KOCOWA for free. Viki hasn't subbed this drama yet but GoPlay will be useful when they do.
I think this drama would have benefitted if it was more like the anime. This drama should have included perspectives from "below" - ordinary people, civilians, not just elite gov't bureaucrats and their families - as well from more diverse backgrounds; I believe the anime focused on a family that was half-Japanese and also dealt with issues of racism and intolerance. I mean, this drama made a big deal about immigration and a shared humanity but barely examined Japan's own history with welcoming foreigners and refugees.
Moreover, it would have been better if the Japan Sinks drama was a bit more realistic when it came to the government and the ruling class' incompetence. Living as we are in the age of the pandemic, all of us have firsthand experience with how useless or straight up anti-survival our politicians, corporations and neighbours are but after all the subtitle is "People of Hope" so I guess they wanted to be more positive and optimistic.
Regardless, despite a lot of overacting from the character of the Tadokoro and some admittedly low-budget special effects, this was still a good drama that kept me mostly invested and was easy to watch. Japan Sinks definitely deserves a higher rating here on MDL... 8.3/10 from me.
