how is the romance in this one? are there kiss scenes skinship etc?
I personally enjoyed it. Don’t expect bickering or teasing or enemies to lovers trope. They started out as very formal business like to each other because of status and age gap. Fl is actually quite tensed when she sees Ml at the beginning but by ep 9 when ML realizes he likes her, the quiet and simmering tension between their interactions are so satisfying to watch. Chemistry is unmatched and honestly the two main leads and winwin characters carried the whole Show, not the plot.
Im stuck in this drama, rewatching the episodes nonstop
Will definitely replay all the couple scenes once all the episodes are out on Viki. This is one of the rare C-dramas where the couple didn’t need to constantly bicker, have useless misunderstandings, silly drunk scenes or scheme against each other before becoming a couple.
I really love that their chemistry was built more on the actors’ ability to use silent gazes, pauses, and body language to show attraction. Even something as simple as him grabbing a cookie from her bag became such a memorable scene. That kind of quiet tension is much harder to pull off.
For how flawed the plot was (especially in the latter half) and how underwhelming the ending turned out to be,…
A lot of the reviews online actually agree that the main leads’ chemistry carried the whole show. That was really its biggest selling point, and I agree — after watching so many dramas, this kind of chemistry is genuinely rare.

This is my first time watching Li Xian, and he feels very different from Ci Sha. Ci Sha has a more intense, restrained energy, while Li Xian is subtle and fluid.
What stands out is how naturally he shifts emotions through small looks and slight changes in expression. The transitions feel effortless and easy to miss. So i think mainstream viewers don’t see this.
Watching him act honestly feels like watching an art form. Definitely a very capable actor.
Ci Sha really made the fight scenes good! Choreography isnt intense but his reactions Reminds me of watching good…
Yeah, he actually looks like he’s genuinely fighting for his men and country in those battle scenes. There’s real aggression and weight behind his movements, especially in the sword-whipping scenes. He comes across ruthless and dangerous instead of just “cool.”
A lot of idol dramas still try too hard to keep the actors looking perfectly pretty during fights. Here, he actually looks like someone who belongs on a battlefield.
Whichever director or producer decided to give him this lead role, thank you very much. At last a proper male lead who can act and do fight scenes.

Which one of these would be comparable to spledid match in terms of chemistry? Not much into revenge or heavy political dramas but want a good romance, good acting and chemistry.
Maybe you are a young lady so you naturally will be drawn to more exciting men 😍 we 40s women will be happy…
💯! I just replied in another thread about how some other C-dramas with subpar acting still end up getting higher ratings, when all the actors do is stare blankly to portray a stoic character. Meanwhile, in this drama, every single actor delivered.
Ci Sha is honestly such a pleasant surprise. I really hope he lands an even stronger project soon because he definitely has the presence and range to stand out. The possibilities for him honestly feel endless — I could totally see him pulling off a flirty, playful male lead just as convincingly as a badass morally gray general. Either way, I think he’d absolutely deliver.
I agreed. I have seen Ren Min in other dramas, but in this show, I felt her acting and character suitability is…
Agree! I was genuinely surprised by how wide his range is — he can switch from ruthless and cold to warm, slightly awkward, and deeply sorrowful so naturally. That’s actually quite rare to see, especially from someone mainly known for martial arts roles.
Usually martial arts actors rely more on physical presence and action charisma. During their peak years, even legends like Jackie Chan or Jet Li rarely carried romance-heavy roles with this kind of emotional layering.
Show, not the plot.

Sorry OP we went off topic.
